Stars – St Augustine’s Repertory Society

St Augustine’s Repertory Society (STARS) was founded in 1981 by a small group of friends within St Augustines, who were keen to establish a new social dimension to the parish. They brought a mix of expertise and enthusiasm together with a strong can-do attitude. They had nothing to start with – no stage – no props – no costumes – no scenery but they were very determined. Above all there was commitment to engage with everyone around who was in any way interested in amateur theatre no matter at what standard. It was then, as it is now, all about having fun whilst presenting as professional production as possible.

Over the years the society has built up substantial resource both in terms of people and equipment. We have our own wardrobe, lights, sound, staging and technical resources, as well as significant expertise in all of these departments.

Since those early days, we have welcomed new members from all over Darlington and the region, from many denominations as well as others who respect our Christian values.

In addition, we are very proud of our Youth STARS who have stage a number of very professional shows over the years. We are always open to new ideas and members. See our Youth Stars page for more details.

It’s a Team Effort!! – STARS is foremost a group of people who get on well with each other in the whole process of staging productions, it is not a ‘Drama Group’ per se – and that, we believe is our success story.
