Why Join STARS?

We are a very active group, and we always aim to be friendly and welcoming. We love to see new members, and never turn anyone away.

You’ll see we normally stage 3 shows a year, with a very broad range of genre. In the past, we’ve produced very serious drama such as ‘The Crucible’ (Jean Anouilh) and a number of Shakespeare plays. But we also enjoy lighter drama including farces such as our recent production of ‘When we are Married’ (JB Priestly) and our current production of ‘Allo Allo’.  Additionally, we have catered for the more musically talented, producing G&S operettas such as ‘The Mikado’, as well as the ever popular ‘Oliver! which involved a mix of talent drawn from both STARS and Youth STARS membership groups.

Youth STARS

Our Youth Stars group membership fluctuates as you would imagine (young people tend to grow up!), so our productions are not as regular, and vary in style depending on the age range of the group at the time. Our shows have included musicals such as ‘Oliver!’ mentioned above,  and ‘The Rocky Monster Show’ (Malcolm Sircom) as well as plays written for young people including ‘Little Women’(based on the book by Louisa May Alcott). Of course, we have Youth STARS members contributing to our annual pantomime, providing much needed variety and enthusiasm! Youth STARS age range is from Year 5 to Year 13 (10 to 18), though we restrict to Year 6 and above for the pantomimes because of the later rehearsal schedules.

Rehearsals

Our Rehearsal schedules are seasonal, (so not every week), and are usually focused on the 3 months leading up to a production. Within those periods, we generally rehearse on Friday and Sunday evenings in the Parish Centre from 7.30 until around 10pm.  The licensed bar is always open at these times.  Youth STARS rehearsals tend to be on Sunday afternoons from 2 until 5pm.  We usually run a small (but affordable) soft drinks and refreshments bar at these rehearsals.  The licensed bar is closed at these times.

Annual Membership Fees

Our Membership fees are deliberately low as we recognise that there are many pressures on family budgets these days.

Adult Member – £5
Concession (Under 18 and retired) – £3

Fees are due after STARS AGM in September each year, but memberships can be taken anytime
